Norway has been miles ahead of the rest of the world when it comes to EV adoption in the last few years
Norway has been setting records when it comes to EVs as 90% of all cars sold in 2024 were electric vehicles. That is an impressive stat and something you would already know if you have been following the EV revolution across the world in the last few years. The Scandinavian nation has been at the forefront of this EV race. In terms of carmakers, Tesla, Volkswagen, Toyota and Volvo dominate the sales charts. However, Chinese EV makers have been increasing their footprint too.

90% Of All Vehicles Sold In Norway In 2024 Were Electric
As per the Norwegian Road Traffic Information Council (OFV), a total of 128,691 cars were sold in Norway in 2024. Out of these, a whopping 114,400 were electric. OFV says that the nation is close to achieving its target of all zero-emission new passenger vehicles by 2025. The 90% figure is higher than 2023 where it was around 82%. Clearly, the EV adoption is on the rise.
What is worth mentioning is that apart from these 90% of car buyers, most of the rest also opted for an eco-friendly car. For instance, 5.3% of the total vehicles sold in Norway in 2024 were hybrid and 2.7% were plug-in hybrid cars. A jaw-dropping 986 vehicles were the only gas-powered cars sold in the country last year. It is a monumental achievement to sell less than 1,000 ICE cars throughout the year.
