Polestar 2, 3 and 4

Polestar 2 and 3 Get Updates, 4 Undergoes Media Reviews

The Sino-Swedish automaker is firing on all cylinders to create an impact among potential buyers across international markets.

The Polestar 2 and 3 have received slight updates for the 2025MY, while the media drives of the upcoming 4 have commenced. The luxury division of Volvo has had an interesting journey so far. It has been decently successful in the markets it operates. Its distinctly designed EVs have been able to woo customers. However, it is still a relatively unknown product in the Western world. But in recent times, it has gained some prominence.

Now that the initial phase of being in the shadow of Volvo is almost over, the Geely-owned Swedish startup wants to venture into unchartered territory on its own. That is reflected in the design of its upcoming EVs like the Polestar 4. The biggest talking point of the 4 is its windowless rear profile. Let us delve deep into what’s new with the Polestar 2, 3 and 4.

Polestar 2 & 3 Updated

The 2025 Polestar 2 has been enhanced with more range and some aesthetic alterations. Firstly, it now gets two new exterior paint schemes – Vapour and Storm. Additionally, there are new 19-inch Aero alloy wheels with aero inserts and 20-inch Pro graphite alloy wheels. On the inside, the buyers will get “animal welfare-secured Charcoal Nappa leather upholstery” from the internationally award-winning Bridge of Weir in Scotland. Finally, the Pro Pack even offers a new black and Swedish Gold seatbelt design.

In terms of range, all models of the Polestar 2 now get more range. In the Long Range Single Motor trim, this number reaches 409 miles (659 km) on the WLTP cycle. For Europe, the EV in Standard Range Single Motor version gets an upgraded 70 kWh CATL battery offering a range of 344 miles (554 km) on WLTP. The 2025 model will arrive in the U.S. soon. Until then, there is an attractive Clean Vehicle Incentive of $10,000 on the 2024 model.

Similarly, a more affordable variant of the Polestar 3 has been launched to rival the Tesla and Porsche. The first Polestar 3 customers have started to receive deliveries in Sweden and California, Illinois (U.S.). Germany and Norway will follow next. Going forward, the Swedish EV startup announced a new Long Range Single Motor Polestar 3. At present, the price in the U.S. starts at $73,400 MSRP for the Long Range Dual Motor with Pilot Pack. The new lower-priced version will arrive later this year.

Finally, the Polestar 4 uses the SEA (Sustainable Experience Architecture) platform from Geely. Note that the Polestar 2 and 3 have CMA or SPA2 platforms. Hence, the 4 is fundamentally different from its brethren. It draws power from a 100 kWh battery pack (94 kWh usable). This feeds either a single-motor RWD or a dual-motor AWD setup.

The power figures range from 268 hp / 253 lb-ft (343 Nm) to 536 hp / 506 lb-ft (686 Nm). In RWD, the range is 385 miles (620 km) on WLTP, while in the AWD, it drops to 270 miles (434 km). There is a 400-volt architecture allowing a charging time of 30 minutes for 10-80% using a 200 kW charger. The sprint from 0-60 mph (97 kmph) takes 3.7 seconds.

Volvo has relinquished some of its share in Polestar while Geely has increased its ownership. Hence, Polestar finds itself in a rather unusual situation where its technology, manufacturing and tie-ups are in China. You must already know that the West – the U.S. and Europe, is imposing tariffs on Chinese-made EVs. Hence, things could be challenging for Polestar going forward.

Nevertheless, it also has plants in other parts of the world, including the U.S. and South Korea. Hence, it is sorted in that regard. It shall be interesting to see how well the existing Polestar 2 and 3 perform with these minor updates. Also, I am particularly intrigued to witness how the customers embrace the Polestar 4 in comparison to the Tesla and Porsche.
