Range Rover EV Bags 42,000 Reservations Before Official Unveiling

The first teaser images emerged in April earlier this year and the reservations have been consistently climbing.

The much-awaited Range Rover EV has already posted some pretty impressive reservations. 42,000, to quantify it. What’s so impressive about this you ask? Well, no one has even seen it in the production-spec guise yet. Sure, there were some teaser images of the butch electric SUV doing some adventures on a snowy track a few months ago. But that is about it. This highlights the immense anticipation potential car buyers have about the Range Rover EV.

Even before the first cold-weather testing images, the Indian-owned British car marque confirmed that the waiting list was 16,000 units-long in February. However, during the Investor Day in June, the SUV maker announced that the reservations had breached the 38,000 units-mark. Not only that, it had over 186 million views on social media. Finally, the latest numbers revolved in the vicinity of 42,000, and we still don’t know how it looks.

In an interview with MotorTrend, JLR COO, Lennard Hoonik said that “The electric Range Rover has to be a Range Rover first. All those principles and driving sensations that make a Range Rover. Even if you have your eyes closed, it shouldn’t matter if it’s a V-8 or an EV or an I-6. It must be a true Range Rover. To keep that discipline, that strategy is hard but our engineers are doing it. ” This emphasizes how difficult it is to design a rugged and legendary off-roader in an electric avatar.

In fact, the brand remarks that its in-house propulsion system enables it to “exceed its already renowned performance on low-grip surfaces, ensuring all-terrain, all-weather, and all-surface capability.” This also includes a new traction control system. Despite being an EV, Range Rover informs that it will have a water-wading capacity of an impressive 850 mm (33.8-inch). More details will emerge close to the launch. The world premiere is slated for the end of this year.

Learn Electric Cars Says

Range Rover is one of the most successful luxury carmakers on the planet. It is also among those rare car marques that are yet to offer a dedicated electric vehicle in their portfolio. But all that is about to change. It has promised to have an electric version of every model by 2030. However, with the way things are going on at the moment (in terms of EV demand slowing down), many legacy car companies are rethinking their strategies of going fully electric. Therefore, we shall have to wait and see how things pan out even though Range Rover is yet to test the waters with an electric offering.
