The quad-motor setup of the large electric SUV even performed better than some iconic supercars
The second-generation 2025 Rivian R1S boasts some notable upgrades including performance and technology. In fact, the American EV startup claims a 0-60 mph acceleration sprint in a jaw-dropping 2.5 seconds (w/ Launch Mode). Now, that is even quicker than most certified supercars in the world including electric and ICE models. That is a testament to just how impressive modern EVs, in general, and the second-generation Rivian products, in particular, are.

2025 Rivian R1S 0-60 mph Acceleration Test
Note that the quad-motor configuration produces a mind-boggling 1,025 hp and 1,198 lb-ft (1,624 Nm) of maximum power and torque. These number are already hypercar territory. Despite such a staggering performance, the EPA-estimated range with the LFP-based Standard Pack is 270 miles (434 km). The second-gen 2024 Rivial R1S gets an entirely new electrical architecture and compute platform which reduces 17 ECUs found in first-generation vehicles down to 7. Shockingly, it removes 1.6 miles (2.6 km) of wiring from each EV.
While all this is official data from the carmaker, MotorTrend recently performed a real-world acceleration test of the 2025 Rivian R1S. They received a 2.6-second time to reach 60 mph. This time is not just better than some of the most powerful SUVs out there (like the BMW XM, Lamborghini Urus Performante, Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT, etc.) but also faster than performance monsters (like the McLaren 750S, Porsche 911 GT3 RS, Lamborghini Huracan STO, etc.). That is a testament to just how incredibly fast the SUV is.
Going even further, the 2025 Rivian R1S completed the quarter mile in a mere 10.4 seconds. The exit speed was a blistering 128.2 mph (206.3 kmph). That is unbelievable for an SUV which weighs 6,824 lbs (3,095 kg). Interestingly, it took the electric SUV just 1.2 seconds between a 45-65 mph window. This is due to the improvement to the in-house motors enabling a better torque delivery off the line and from speed. Remember, the quad-motor SUV possesses a battery pack with a capacity of 149 kWh called the Max Pack. All these factors combine to ensure that real-world performance backs the on-paper claims of the American EV giant.
