The R1T and R1S duo is now available with a few new amenities to enhance the customer experience

The Rivian R1T and R1S have received new features as a part of the latest software update. It is fascinating how in the modern era, a vehicle can become significantly more attractive with a simple OTA update within a matter of hours. Previously, to receive new features in a car model, a facelift was generally the only way. However, since modern cars have become electronics-heavy, it is easy to change most features. Let us delve deep into the specifics of the new features on offer.

Rivian R1T and R1S Get New Features

The American EV startup commenced rolling out the software update on Wednesday. Consequently, a few prominent additional features have led to a significant increment in the grand scheme of things. The most noticeable of these are:

Tri-Zone Climate Control

I feel the most relevant update in the latest Rivian R1T and R1S electric cars is the tri-zone automatic climate control. Now, the driver, the front passenger and the rear passengers will be able to set the climate control settings according to their preferences individually. This will ensure that you won’t keep fighting with one another to increase or decrease the temperature and fan speed. Prior to the update, there was dual-zone climate control only.

Gear Guard Live Cam

We know how important dashcams have become in these times. There is constantly something happening on the roads. To avoid terrible situations, having live footage can be of utmost importance. Keeping that in mind, the Rivian EVs now get a camera-based security system. It records the vicinity of the car. More importantly, you can access to footage via the Rivian mobile app from anywhere. In this manner, you can remotely keep track of any unusual activities surrounding your vehicle.

Dynamic Headlamp Leveling

Next up, the Rivian R1T and R1S also get Dynamic Headlamp Leveling function. It comes with adaptive driving beam technology which can dim a portion of the beam when it senses a car coming from the opposite side. Hence, the driver in the oncoming car won’t get blinded which is a great safety feature. It is something similar to what we see on the matrix LED headlamps in Audi cars. Secondly, this function also ensures a constant throw of light beam regardless of the up-and-down movement of the car on uneven surfaces.

Drive Mode Animations

Finally, the latest updates also make the interior graphics more intriguing with the introduction of cool animations. The digital instrument cluster or infotainment screen will display an accurate animation of the EV depending on the drive mode selected. For instance, you will get to see the vehicle in the snow when you engage Snow Mode. Similarly, while adjusting the ride height or suspension settings, the vehicle will move on the screen as well. Other functions include visual representation of regenerative braking, ride comfort and stability control settings. These might not be required but they sure look cool!

The addition of features pertaining to software updates is not just limited to Rivian. It is a trend with all modern cars. That is one of the most exciting parts about EVs. Going forward, this trend is definitely going to rise. In essence, modern EVs are gadgets on wheels. In fact, many recalls have also been fixed by software updates in recent times. That is the age we live in. I feel curious to see how things shape up in this regard in times to come.
