Jaguar Reveals Type 00 Concept EV With 770 km Range

Days after receiving massive flak for its promotional advertisement, Jaguar has showcased the much-awaited concept EV of the future

Jaguar has finally taken the wraps off the Type 00 concept EV, defining its future trajectory. India’s Tata Motors-owned British luxury car marque attracted backlash online due to its new logo and way of writing ‘Jaguar’ along with the commercial which looks more for a fashion brand than a car. Nevertheless, their aim was clear – to announce its transition into electric mobility. Jaguar plans the launch of the production model by the end of next year (2025).

The Jaguar Type 00 concept EV uses a new and dedicated architecture – JEA (Jaguar Electrical Architecture). This promises a claimed WLTP range of 770 km (478 miles) on a single charge. For our American readers, the EPA-estimated range is a healthy 692 km (430 miles). Furthermore, the EV offers a charging time of 15 minutes to recuperate 321 km (200 miles) worth of range. Also, while the concept was a 2-door saloon, the production-spec version will be a 4-door GT.

With Jaguar’s “Copy Nothing” ethos, the exterior is certainly quite extravagant. The rear profile consists of a fastback silhouette and the 23-inch alloy wheels definitely elevate its road presence. It is clear that this is a bit far away from what the actual EV would look like. Jaguar says that it will belong to the high end of the spectrum moving further away from “mass premium” space.

On the inside, the cabin has been bifurcated via a brass bar which Jaguar calls the spine. In essence, the entire compartment for the driver and passenger has been separated. This includes dedicated sections of the dashboard and individual display screens. There is a clever usage of the lighting along with tons of storage spaces. All in all, the cabin looks ultra-modern but I don’t believe we will see anything like this in the final version.

Jaguar has announced its arrival into the EV age with a bang. It has, sort of, broken all ties with the past which is why we see a new logo, new lettering and a new design philosophy. In an age where most established car marques have already taken a significant lead in this space, it will be intriguing to see how Jaguar tries to catch up.
