New Porsche Taycan Turbo GT4 RS Aims To Reclaim Nürburgring

It looks like the rivalry to establish bragging rights on the iconic Nürburgring between Porsche and Xiaomi is getting stronger

To assert its dominance on the legendary Nürburgring track, Porsche is prepping the new Taycan Turbo GT4 RS. Porsche has always treated the Nürburgring like its personal playground. Lap times are not just numbers for the German brand, they’re proof of dominance. The company already owns some of the most famous records, including the insane 5:19.546 lap by the 919 Hybrid Evo. But in the world of electric cars, things just got heated.

The German performance auto giant has to be on its toes to keep up with the Chinese carmaker. Spy shots now reveal a hardcore Taycan that many are calling the Taycan Turbo GT4 RS. At first, people thought it was a special Manthey Racing project, but now it looks like a proper Porsche model. Two prototypes have already been seen at the Nürburgring, one driven by Porsche’s go-to test driver, Lars Kern.

This Taycan looks way wilder than the Turbo GT. The front end has a bigger splitter, new canards, and 911 GT3 RS-style louvers on the fenders. The wheel arches are flared, the underbody is reworked, and the rear wheels get special aero discs. Out back, there’s a huge fixed wing and a new diffuser. Inside, some test cars even had just one seat and a full roll cage. It’s clear this is built for pure track performance.

The current Taycan Turbo GT already makes over 1,000 horsepower, with short bursts going past 1,100 hp in special modes. But Xiaomi’s SU7 Ultra packs around 1,548 hp. To keep up, Porsche is likely pushing the Taycan’s powertrain beyond its usual limits. Brakes glowing red-hot during tests also show how hard the engineers are pushing.

During testing, one Taycan prototype damaged its diffuser on a hot lap, while another managed a cleaner but still not perfect run. This shows Porsche is chasing times, not just durability testing. The big question now: can the Taycan GT4 RS break the seven-minute barrier?

Porsche’s obsession with Nürburgring glory means it won’t stop until it regains the EV crown. Xiaomi has raised the bar, but the Taycan GT4 RS looks ready to answer. With winter coming, Porsche has only a short window left this year to set the record. For car fans, the next few months at the Nordschleife should be very exciting.

The competition between these two auto giants has been quite exciting for auto enthusiasts. They constantly try to outdo each other. Nevertheless, in this race, they have pushed the boundaries of what EVs can do. In fact, they optimize the design and aerodynamics for maximum performance. Also, the instant torque of electric motors ensure blisterring launches. It will be intriguing to keep an eye out for how things pan out in the coming times.
