Tesla Cars in Canada Get Price Hike

Canadian Buyers Brace For Huge Price Hikes On Tesla Cars Of Up To CAD$9,000

The largest EV maker on the planet has announced a significant increase in the prices of its EVs in Canada as Donald Trump assumes office

Tesla cars in Canada are getting considerably more expensive with the latest price hikes. The largest electric car marque in the world has announced a surge in prices across the range save for the futuristic Cybertruck. What is intriguing is the fact that the timing of this development strangely coincides with the date the new U.S. President proposed a 25% tariff on Canadian goods entering the U.S., i.e., February 1, 2025. Also worth mentioning, Canada has indicated similar plans to impose tariffs on U.S. imports.

Price Hikes on Tesla Cars in Canada

Let us commence with the model which experiences the maximum price hike, the Model 3 Performance. Canadian buyers will now need to shell out an additional CAD$9,000 (US$6,273) for the road-going monster. In addition, the regular Model 3 range is now more expensive from CAD$4,000 (US$2,788) to CAD$9,000 (US$6,273). Furthermore, the Model Y, Model S and Model X will be more expensive by CAD$4,000 (US$2,788) flat across the variant lineup.

The one vehicle which remains unaffected by this price hike is the top-of-the-line Cyberbeast. It continues to retail for CAD$165,990 (US$115,400). I must also mention that these massive price hikes come after the recent increase in prices of Tesla Model 3 and Model Y by CAD$1,000 (US$700). Moreover, the Canadian government has also discontinued the federal incentive program which would’ve reduced prices of EVs by CAD$5,000 (US$3,500) recently. Hence, Canadians will have to work with these prices starting February 1, 2025. Here is the list of the model-wise price increases:

In a time where the EV demand has been sporadic, raising the prices seems like a tough call to make. Still, the EV giant must’ve thought about the implications of this announcement. Also, the exact reason for this decision is not clear. Perhaps, Tesla Canada was left with no option but to increase the prices to meet the new tariffs that will be levied by the new U.S. President. Still, we shall have to see how this impacts Tesla sales in Canada post February 2025.
