The Italian supercar maker is planning to transition to a pure electric era while ensuring that the essence of a Ferrari remains intact.
The Ferrari EV prototype has already covered ‘several thousand kilometers’, confirms Ferrari’ CEO, Benedetto Vigna. As we step into the electric mobility era, most carmakers are in the transition phase. While the case with mass market vehicles is different, supercar manufacturers like Ferrari need to be extra careful to not lose their speciality. These cars are a testament to the most advanced engineering on the planet in the ICE era. Electric powertrains offer inherent instant torque delivery. Hence, the gap between the Ferrari of the past and the performance EVs of today has gone down significantly.

Ferrari EV Prototype Commences Testing
The first Ferrari EV is slated to reach the dealers by 2026. The official debut will take place sometime next year (2025). Note that at present, the SF90 Stradale is the only electrified vehicle (PHEV) in Ferrari’s portfolio. The Italian auto marque wishes to sell 60% electrified cars (PHEV and BEV) by 2026. I must mention here that Ferrari’s arch nemesis, Lamborghini, has planned to launch its first electric “Super SUV” by 2028.
Vigna confirmed that the Ferrari’s test drivers have driven the prototypes “several thousand kilometers” already. The test mule was recently spotted with modified Maserati Levante elements. The Ferrari CEO said, “People buy a Ferrari because when they buy a Ferrari, they have a lot of fun. It’s a combination of things.” As a consequence, he promises to make the first electric Ferrari “the right way”. The EV will be shaped according to the feedback from the drivers. Ferrari considers this an important metric while engineering supercars.
Rumor mills are churning out reports which suggest a price tag of a whopping $500,000 for the first Ferrari EV. Vigna said the reports were “a surprise” and didn’t confirm (or deny) the price tag. The electric car from Ferrari will go into production at the newly inaugurated e-building. It runs entirely on renewable energy sources. This plant will become operational in January 2025.
The first vehicles to go into the production line here will be Purosangue, followed by SF90 Stradale and then the EV in 2026. In fact, Ferrari will even build electric motors, batteries and inverters in this e-building.

Learn Electric Cars Says
As EVs start to penetrate into even the niche market segments across the globe, it is about time that we get the first electric car from an iconic supercar maker like Ferrari as well. I am particularly intrigued by the Chinese carmakers, who are turning out to be fierce rivals in every category. They are taking over the entry-level cheap EVs, regular mass-market passenger EVs, electric SUVs and even supercars. The prime example of the latter is the BYD Yangwang U9. The Xiaomi SU7 also demonstrated the prowess of Chinese EVs. Hence, exciting times are ahead.
