Hyundai Ioniq 9 Off-Road Concept
The images of the electric SUV concept demonstrate some retro elements with a modern foundation. I particularly appreciate the auxiliary light bar mounted on the roof. Also, the body graphics at the rear quarter of the EV reads “BigTime” in a bold font. This is themed with the 1977 vintage cabover called the “Bud”. The vintage wheels painted in white further drive this point home.
Jeremiah Burton, Chief Executive Officer at BigTime, remarked, “We’re stoked to be working with Hyundai on the IONIQ 9. EVs have come a long way, so getting a chance to put our own spin on an off-road-themed IONIQ 9 is pretty cool. We believe all cars are cool, no matter what you drive. And bringing some elements from the off-road scene to the EV scene can hopefully inspire some future off-roaders.”
Note that this enticing concept is based on the Ioniq 9 Calligraphy AWD variant. Hence, there is no shortage of power courtesy of a dual-motor all-wheel-drive configuration, generating a mammoth 422 hp and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) of maximum power and torque, respectively. This is enough power to take the occupant over just about any terrain out there.
Speaking on this occasion, Sean Gilpin, Chief Marketing Officer, Hyundai Motor North America, commented, “Hyundai is more than proud to present the innovative IONIQ 9 off-road concept developed by BigTime at the 2025 SEMA show. Its aggressive lift, all-terrain tires and rugged off-road design inspire both innovation and customization — the hallmarks of any successful SEMA concept. This concept takes IONIQ 9 into new off-road terrain it has yet to explore, and we’re confident it’s more than up for the adventure.”

As someone who has closely tracked Hyundai’s electrification strategy globally, I find the Ioniq 9 Off-Road Concept to be a refreshing reminder that EVs need not be confined to urban commutes. This showcase underlines Hyundai’s growing intent to infuse emotion and adventure into its electric lineup. We know that such concepts might be far from production reality. Nevertheless, they do hint at how future EVs could balance performance, design flair, and versatility traits buyers are increasingly drawn toward.
