Hyundai To Launch AI-Powered EV For China

Hyundai To Launch A New AI-Powered EV Next Year

The Korean car marque has been deploying innovative technological amenities in its latest cars and wants to take things to the next level

Hyundai is set to launch a brand-new AI-powered EV for the Chinese market next year. Note that the Korean auto giant is struggling with its sales in China. The low-cost local products have really put the legacy carmakers under pressure. However, Hyundai has decided to go all-out and make efforts to regain its depleting market share. For that, Hyundai will partner with Haomo, a Chinese autonomous startup.

Hyundai To Launch A New AI-Powered EV

As per The Korea Herald, a Hyundai Motor official confirmed, “We are working to load the software of Haomo, a local autonomous driving software firm, onto the EV, which will be released in the Chinese market next year. The level of autonomous driving is somewhere between 2 and 2.5.”

This means that the vehicle can steer, brake and accelerate on its own. Still, human intervention is necessary. Haomo showcased its generative AI tool called DriveGPT last year. The company claims that the AI model can continuously optimize autonomous vehicles’ real-time decision-making ability on roads by introducing data about situations where human drivers take over control of the vehicle. Furthermore, Haomo mentioned that DriveGPT has already been used in around 20 models.

This is definitely an active strategy to gain prominence in the brutally competitive Chinese market. Remember, Hyundai Motor established a 50-50 joint venture with Beijing Motor to create a China-specific EV brand. As a part of this deal, Hyundai unveiled a plan to launch up to 5 EVs in China through 2026. Hence, it will be interesting to see how Chinese customers embrace the new-age China-specific EVs from Hyundai.

Following the same footsteps, Hyundai is also partnering with local players to come up with China-specific products. Having said that, if these vehicles and technology become successful in China, we can expect them to arrive in the international markets as well.
