Tesla Wireless Charging Technology

Tesla showcased plenty of developments during its recent ‘We, Robot’ event including the much-hyped Robotaxi. However, one thing that caught our eye was the wireless charging technology. The reason is – Tesla has been a proponent of an automated robot arm instead of wireless charging for the longest time. It was implied that the EV giant is not all that excited about wireless charging for some reason. Nevertheless, in recent times, it has shown a willingness to adopt it.

A tweet on X from the official Tesla handle demonstrated the process in a 14-second-long video clip. Its new Robotaxi is seen in the visuals. It parks itself atop the wireless charging pad and the screen on the inside confirms that charging has commenced. Interestingly, it displays just 25 kWh output. This hints at the fact that this could be a part of home charging equipment. Or, with future developments, the charging speed would be enhanced. The tweet reads, “Robotaxi wireless charging … No hands required.”

To corroborate this tech, the Tesla Chief Designer Franz von Holzhausen confirmed that Tesla is working on a wireless charging pad. Additionally, we also know that the Cybertruck has inductive charging connectors. Most likely, it could be retrofitted with this technology once it is available. Since we know that the Robotaxi will get this feature, it is almost a foregone conclusion that future Tesla EVs will definitely be equipped with this convenience. It remains to be seen how efficient this system will be in comparison to wired configuration.
