The VW ID.7 Pro S has demonstrated some pretty impressive driving range numbers recently. Unlike some other tests which are conducted in ideal conditions just to display bloated range figures, this one actually took place during the day on a route with actual traffic. Not only that, it contained main through-roads and motorway sections. VW Team Switzerland, led by Felix Egolf – an expert in long-distance driving with EVs – covered 493 mi. (794 km) on a single battery charge in 15 hours and 42 minutes.

VW ID.7 Pro S Range Test
The EV was driven on an approximately 81-kilometre (50.33 mi.) circuit in the Zug metropolitan area south of Zurich. This road had main through-roads, motorway sections and country roads with hilly transitions. Interestingly, 8 drivers drove the EV on two consecutive days on a single battery. This ensured that various driving mannerisms were taken into consideration. On this trip, the EV showcased an exceptionally low energy consumption of 10.3 kWh / 100 km. This is equivalent to 1.1 liters per 100 km (213 U.S. mpg) with a diesel mill.
The average speed for this test was 51 km/h (31.7 mph). By the end, the VW ID.7 Pro S had 2 km (1.24 mi.) of range left. If that was not enough, you would be impressed to know that this test was not conducted on the most energy-efficient model of the electric sedan. Furthermore, the official press release from Volkswagen claims that as per WLTP calculations, the vehicle which features optional equipment such as the Comfort package, IQ.DRIVE assist systems package, Plus the exterior package and a heat pump would have reached a WLTP range of 700 km.
In Europe, the electric sedan comes with a large 91 kWh (86 kWh usable) battery pack. However, for those who are on a strict budget, the German car marque even offers a smaller 77 kWh battery pack model. The electric sedan supports 200 kW of DC fast charging with the larger battery. There is a 210 kW (286 PS) electric motor which propels the EV from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 6.6 seconds. You would be happy to know that the claimed WLTP range of this EV in the 86 kWh version is 709 km (440 mi.). Even with the smaller battery, this range is 615 km (382 mi.).
