As per the reports, the electric SUV’s pedestrian alert system doesn’t produce enough sound between the speeds of 12.4 mph (20 km/h) and 18.6 mph (30 km/h). As a consequence, the pedestrians won’t be able to hear the vehicle approaching which is a safety hazard. The reason cited for this occurrence is an improperly calibrated system.

Overall, there are 7,606 units of the 2025 Chevy Equinox EV affected by this recall. These are manufactured between August 13, 2024 and October 16, 2024. GM says that the fault lies in an incorrect software calibration in the body control module. In fact, an official investigation was launched after an audit unveiled that the pedestrian sound system was not up to the mark.

The owners will be notified about the recall from January 27, 2025 onwards. However, one thing to mention here is that the fix won’t be over-the-air. Customers will need to visit the GM dealerships to have the software correctly calibrated. Nevertheless, for the unsold vehicles, an over-the-air update will fix this issue. In any case, 2025 Chevy Equinox EV owners should ideally keep an eye out for the notification.
