This record encapsulates a total elevation change of 5,802 m (19,035 ft.) over a 4,900 km (3,045 mi.) journey across India

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 has created a world record for the great altitude change by an electric car. This expedition took place in India. The ambitious trip commenced from Umling La in Ladakh and culminated in Kuttanad in Kerala. The electric crossover was driven by the Evo India team and it took over 14 days to complete. This tested the resilience, advanced technology and performance of the Ioniq 5 across challenging terrains and extreme climatic conditions.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 Creates World Record

For those unversed with the Indian terrain and climatic conditions, Umling La is situated at 5,799 m (19,025 ft.) above sea level in the freezing Himalayas in North India. On the other hand, Kuttanad is located at 3 m (9.8 ft.) below sea level in the humid coastal regions of South India. This incorporates all sorts of terrains and weather conditions while crisscrossing across the vast land of the country. This odyssey is certainly a testament to the EV’s engineering prowess and durability.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 uses the state-of-the-art Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) architecture which has spawned two other Hyundai EVs including the Ioniq 6 and Ioniq 9. Not to mention, the Kia EV6 and EV9 are also based on the same platform. Apart from the regular model, there is the performance-focused N version on sale and the XRT is available with rugged elements focused on off-roading adventures with a distinct body kit and raised ride height by 0.9 inches (23 mm).
