The already impressive performance crossover has taken things a notch higher with a special collaboration with the Drift King himself
This Hyundai Ioniq 5 N DK Edition has been created with inputs from Keiichi Tsuchiya, one of the most well-known drift drivers in the world. He has been given the title of ‘Drift King’, hence the DK Edition. The fact that Tsuchiya is Japanese but a South Korean carmaker named a car after him is a testament to his image and stature in the world of drifting. Interestingly, it is not a mere homage, but he actually was involved in the development of this special model. It bears comprehensive updates to justify the title.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 N DK Edition
The 3-and-a-half-minute long video clip from the official Hyundai N Worldwide channel on YouTube showcases the entire creation process. Keiichi Tsuchiya gave his valuable input with regards to just about every major component needed to be replaced to make it a drift monster. This includes suspension, braking, ride height, weight reduction, body kit, special tires, and more. In fact, he tested it extensively on the track to fine-tune everything.
On the outside, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N DK Edition boasts a bespoke carbon fiber body kit. It incorporates elements like a front splitter, side skirts, a rear diffuser and a prominent roof-mounted rear spoiler. The latter is able to generate a significant downforce of 200 pounds (93 kgf) at 87 mph (140 km/h). There are also ‘DK Edition’ graphics on the C-pillars. Also, the special 21-inch forged lightweight wheels with wider tires save around 5 pounds of unsprung mass per corner to improve handling.
Talking about other key components, this special edition EV boasts 6-piston caliper brakes using high-strength duralumin for enhanced braking performance with heat-resistant high-performance brake pads. Then there are new H&R springs which reduce the ride height by 15 mm improving stability around corners. The electronically controlled dampers and lower springs allow an ideal balance of roll and yaw and controlled weight transfer. After all these enhancements, Keiichi Tsuchiya tested it on the track to confirm unbelievably impressive driving dynamics.

I must admit I really appreciate Hyundai for experimenting so heavily with the Ioniq 5. Apart from being a passenger vehicle, the Korean auto giant has harnessed its potential extensively by showcasing so many hardcore performance-oriented editions. The top ones are the Ioniq 5 N eN1 Cup Car, Ioniq 5 N TA (Time Attack), Ioniq 5 N RN24 Rally and now this Ioniq 5 N DK Edition. It is really stretching the boundaries of what they can achieve with a single product. Initially, it will be launched in South Korea and Japan. It will be interesting to see if Hyundai decides to bring it to other markets.
