Rivian Price Hike in Canada

Rivian EVs To Get CA$10,000 More Expensive In Canada From February 25

The American EV startup is asking the potential buyers in Canada to buy its products before the price hike

Rivian EVs, R1T and R1S, are slated to be up to CA$10,000 (approx US$7,000) more expensive in the coming days in Canada. This will take the already hefty prices even higher in the North American nation. The Rivian products have gained a decent momentum in the last few years on the sales charts in the U.S. and Canada. However, the recent tariff war between the two nations is bound to result in such price hikes going forward.

Rivian EVs To Get CA$10,000 More Expensive In Canada

Note that the Rivian R1T electric pickup range starts at CA$101,900 (approx. US$71,300) in Canada at the moment. This is the price tag of the entry-level Dual Standard. Going higher, the R1T Dual goes for CA$111,900 (approx. US$78,300), while the range-topping R1T Tri-motor bears a retail sticker of a whopping CA$142,900 (approx. US$100,000).

Similarly, the corresponding variants of the R1S electric SUV cost CA$109,900 (approx. $77,000), CA$119,900 (approx. $84,000) and CA$150,900 (approx. $105,600), respectively. Now, it is not clear if the CA$10,000 (approx. $7,000) increase will be applicable to the entire lineup uniformly or to specific models. Still, one can expect the EVs to get considerably more expensive from February 2025 onwards.

This information was relayed to the Canadian customers via an email. Also, the official reason for this price hike, as claimed by Rivian, is the change in the exchange rates between the U.S. and Canada. However, we must not forget that the recently announced (but not yet implemented) 25% tariffs on U.S. goods into Canada could also play a key role in this regard.

Now, while this seems like a regular announcement from Rivian (and it might well be just that), I can’t help but notice that it could also serve as a little nudge from the American carmaker to push the fence-sitters to take a decision. In all honesty, this is not such a bad unintentional side-effect of this announcement. It remains to be seen how many buyers will Rivian be able to pursue with this news.
