This is one of the reasons why EVs are so convenient since most updates are electronic which doesn’t require owners to visit the service centers
In rather exciting news for Rivian EV owners, they can now update the wheel size in the software without having to visit the dealers. Rivian sells the R1T electric pickup truck and the R1S electric SUV currently. Both these are typically owned by people who love to go out on adventurous excursions. In fact, that is what most people do with their pickup trucks anyway. Hence, installing new and appropriate wheels is a common practice.

Rivian EV Owners Can Now Update Wheel Size Over-the-Air
As a consequence, they must visit the service center for the recalibration of the software. Depending on the new wheel and tire sizes, the necessary information is updated in the software. Otherwise, it is possible that the car electronics will show slightly incorrect information including things like the car speed and range estimate. While that might not be such a big issue or deviation, it is better to have these aspects sorted.
We know that some people have to travel for hours before reaching the Rivian service center. Now that is certainly a long journey for a relatively minor chore. Recognizing this, the American EV startup has announced a software update which will prevent this trip altogether. Wassym Bensaid, Head of Software Development at Rivian, took to social media to announce the software version 2025.06.
It will allow the owners to set the tire size on the vehicle’s infotainment display. This will automatically recalibrate the EV’s electronics to ensure that the range and speed calculations are accurate. Note that the 2025 models of the R1T and R1S have the Gen2 wheels. However, it will also function with Gen1 models with this upcoming software update. Hence, the need to visit the service center will be eliminated. Wassym said that the update will roll out “soon”.
