The Chinese electronics giant has been having a blast in the EV space ever since the launch of the SU7 electric sedan
The Xiaomi YU7 electric SUV has finally been leaked by MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology) of China. Note that this agency receives photos and technical information about every new car from the manufacturers for the process of homologation. Interestingly, every once in a while, the Chinese state agency makes this information public regardless of whether the car has been officially revealed or not. While that is concerning for the carmakers, it is great for the auto enthusiasts.

Xiaomi YU7 Electric SUV Leaked
That is exactly what happened with Xiaomi’s upcoming electric SUV. Remember, Xiaomi is still basking in the immense success of the SU7 sedan. The Chinese tech giant met its goal of 100,000 production units before the planned 1 year. That is a testament to how well the customers have embraced the SU7. Aiming to replicate that success, it now wants to offer an electric SUV.
The SU7 was touted as the Porsche Taycan rival, while the YU7 has a resemblance to the likes of the Ferrari Purosangue, especially at the front. However, that is impressive since the car could cost almost 1/10th of the Italian beauty. That has been the strategy of Chinese carmakers in general, and Xiaomi in particular. There is no denying the fact that the YU7 electric SUV bears a slippery surface to maximize aerodynamic efficiency.
Furthermore, the images also reveal a low-slung stance for a lower centre of gravity which will ensure high-speed stability and great handling characteristics. The flush-fitting door handles indicate a modern design language. Also, being a Xiaomi, we can expect a whole host of tech and connectivity functionalities.
However, the main talking point has to be the powertrain. It is said that the dual-motor configuration will be good for a jaw-dropping 681 hp (500 kW) of peak power. A point to mention is that the SU7 makes 664 hp (488 kW). The launch is slated for around mid-2025. One could anticipate a starting price of around $35,000.

That is what is bothering the legacy carmakers in the West. In any case, let us keep an eye out for more details in this regard going forward.
