Kia EV5 To Arrive In Canada

Kia EV5 Electric SUV Is Canada Bound, But Won’t Come To U.S.

The electric SUV will be on display at the upcoming Canadian International Auto Show starting on February 14, 2025

The Kia EV5 electric SUV will arrive in Canada but will skip the U.S. Kia has been having a great time on the international sales charts for a while now. Its EV6 and EV9 have impressed buyers and car reviewers from across the globe. In a bid to expand its global EV portfolio further, the EV3 and EV5 will cater to the masses. However, talking about the Canadian market, it will get the EV5 either from China or Singapore.

Kia EV5 Electric SUV Is Canada Bound

The EV is sold across many nations in Asia. It has gained a decent popularity among the masses. Note that it will be positioned above the upcoming EV3 and below the existing EV6. From the outside, it carries mini-EV9 vibes. This includes a sleek LED strip which runs the width of the fascia and culminates into the EV9-like LED DRLs. Down below, the bumper houses a rugged skid plate. Moving down the sides reveals an upright stance.

The round wheel arches use matte black claddings which encapsulate dual-tone aero-optimized alloy wheels and a sturdy element on the door panels. Apart from that, the black side pillars and flush-fitting door handles inform the modern design theme. The faux roof rails, creaseless doors and use of metallic frame underneath the windows induce a premium layout. Finally, the tail end consists of a shark fin antenna, a boxy silhouette, slim LED C-shaped taillamps and an upright demeanour. I like the solid skid plate at the rear.

Going by the international model, the interior boasts the latest interior theme from the Korean car marque. This includes a connected display which contains a digital instrument cluster and touchscreen infotainment unit, dual-tone dashboard, minimalistic cabin, premium audio system, and a plush upholstery.

In terms of the specs, it is not clear what the Canada-spec model will carry. Still, to keep the costs in check, it could deviate from the 800-volt architecture on offer with the EV9 and instead, opt for the 400-volt arrangement. Additionally, it might solely be available in a single-motor 2WD avatar, skipping the dual-motor AWD version. However, it will still get the famed E-GMP architecture from Hyundai Motor Group. More details will emerge as the launch nears.

Interestingly, this won’t be the first time a Kia model will be on sale in Canada but not in the U.S. See, for the world, North America might seem almost a single entity, but we must understand that there is a significant difference in the car owners’ mentality in Canada and the U.S. As per their sensibilities, some carmakers offer distinct products for a specific market. Earlier, we saw something like this with the Kia Soul EV. Let us keep an eye out for further developments in this case.
