Kia EV3 Dual-Motor AWD GT Trim Seen Testing

The compact electric SUV is set to receive a performance-focused GT variant with an additional electric motor for an AWD configuration

The Kia EV3 dual-motor AWD GT version was recently spotted testing in the Arctic. The Korean auto giant has high hopes for the affordable EV in the regular version. However, to cater to those looking for a bit more power and oomph, the dual-motor GT variant will do the trick. Note that the regular iteration is expected to cost under $30,000 after the tax credits. Hence, even the EV3 GT won’t make the buyers break the bank.

I was able to get a glimpse of these images courtesy of the Motor Authority. These showcase the electric compact SUV parked somewhere. Despite the heavy camouflage, the overall silhouette is reminiscent of the Kia EV3. The upright bonnet and the typically sleek LED DRLs, the prominent wheel arches, the brake calipers, the aero alloy wheels and the squarish tail end indicate that it is a new iteration of the EV3.

Furthermore, a quick glimpse into the cabin of this EV captures the GT badging on the headrests of the front seats. Even though the exact details are scarce, we know that the regular EV3 comes with all the latest bells and whistles. Clearly, the GT version will borrow all those elements. In fact, we might even see some EV3 GT-specific features. In any case, to mark visual differences on the outside and inside, we will definitely have some new aesthetic bits.

Now there is still no clarity on what kind of powertrain will be available with the Kia EV3 dual-motor AWD GT. For reference, the regular trim comes with a 58.3 kWh and an 81.4 kWh battery pack. Unlike the likes of EV6 and EV9, the EV3 uses a 400-volt architecture to keep the costs in check. In the single-motor avatar, the EV makes 204 PS and 283 Nm enabling a 0-100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration time of just 7.5 seconds. Understandably, the dual-motor version will be more powerful and quick.
