Lucid Motors are emerging as a prominent player in the performance electric sedan space. Their intentions are crystal clear with the electric 1,200+ hp super sedan Air Saphhire slated for launch next year (2023).
On August 19, 2022, Lucid Motors announced that it will launch the Sapphire variant of the already successful Air, aiming to be the world’s first fully electric luxury super-sports sedan. While the exact specifications will only be revealed closer to the launch, Lucid Motors tempts the enthusiasts by stating a plethora of astounding key figures including 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) acceleration time of under 2 seconds. The Sapphire is based on the LEAP (Lucid Electric Advanced Platform).

Lucid Motors Air Variants
In order to make it more accessible and cater to a wider audience, Lucid Motors offers the Air in various trims – Air Pure, Air Touring, Air Grand Touring, Air Grand Touring Performance, Air Dream Edition, Air Dream Edition Performance and the upcoming Air Sapphire. The power output for these trims ranges from a modest 480 hp to a whopping 1,200+ hp. The EPA-estimated range figures are between 406 miles (653 km) to an impressive 520 miles (837 km). Note that the range for the Sapphire will be announced later.

Lucid Air Sapphire Charging
Lucid Air boasts the fastest charging capabilities with the 900+ V architecture. This lightning-fast architecture propels the Lucid Air to recuperate 300 miles (483 km) of range in just 22 mins. This is quite impressive and supports 300 kW DC fast charging (will be upgraded to 350 kW soon) using CCS charger. In addition to that, Lucid Air will also support 19.2 kW bi-directional charging.
Lucid Air Price
With so many variants, Lucid Motors have the flexibility of pricing the Air across a wide spectrum. It starts at an attractive $87,400 USD for the Pure trim and goes up to $169,000 USD for the base price of the Dream Edition trim. The Sapphire will be launched in 2023 with a starting price of a whopping $249,000 USD in the USA and $325,000 CAD in Canada.

Interior and Features
The inside of the Lucid Air is a gripping experience. One gets greeted by a light and airy upholstery and sustainable materials for the dashboard, upholstery, door panels, etc. In addition to that, there is a colossal 34-inch 5K Floating Screen combining the Driver’s Instrument Panel and Infotainment Display. There is another portrait-styled screen down in the centre, Lucid App, Built-In Alexa Voice Assistant, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Glass Roof, Premium 21-Speaker Audio System, OTT with High-Speed Ethernet-Ring Data Network, and much more.
Autonomous Driving
Lucid Air is Level 3 Autonomous Driving ready. It comes with 32 sensors comprising of long-range high-resolution LIDAR sensors, radars, ultrasonic sensors, cameras, etc from Continental and Bosch. All this hardware will feed the real-time data into the electronic powerhouse to enable semi-autonomous driving capabilities. Lucid calls it the DreamDrive and will include all sorts of ADAS functions.
