XPeng is the Tesla rival in the Chinese market and is rolling out the 480 kW ultra-fast charging infrastructure enabling around 124 miles (200 km) range in just 5 mins.
XPeng is preparing to revolutionize the EV industry by launching the luxurious G9, which they are calling the fastest charging electric SUV in the world. The G9 is based on the 800 V architecture and has the company’s latest charging capability of 480 kW allowing to charge the EV to get 124 miles (200 km) range in mere 5 mins.
With the G9, XPeng offers an affordable, practical and exciting electric SUV to rival the likes of the Tesla Model Y in the Chinese market. It will steadily make its way into the European markets – Sweden, the Netherlands, Norway and Denmark.

XPeng G9 – Specs
The XPeng G9 comes with the options of a single-motor 2WD or a dual-motor AWD configuration. It is based on the X-EEA 3.0 Electrical and Electronic Architecture. The 98 kWh Lithium-Ion battery will power the wheels to give a range of 436 miles (702 km) in the 2WD and 404 miles (650 km) in the AWD setup. Note that these are CLTC (China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle) certified stats and the WLTP figures will invariably be lower.

XPeng is targeting premium customers who are looking for a luxury SUV and the interior of the G9 shows that it can cater to that audience. Semi-Autonomous Driving – XPILOT 4.0
In a bid to rival Tesla, XPeng has installed a plethora of hardware into the G9 enabling semi-autonomous driving capabilities. The XPILOT 4.0 system utilizes 31 sensors including 2 LIDAR Sensors, 5 Millimetre Wave Radars, 12 Ultrasonic Radars, and 12 Cameras. The data from all these sensors is handled by dual NVIDIA DRIVE chips delivering 508 TOPS (Trillion Operations Per Second) of computing performance. The actual self-driving capabilities will be offered in the future.
Price
At the launch, the price in the Chinese market ranges from 309,900 RMB ($43,532) to 469,900 RMB ($66,007). For reference, the Tesla Model Y in the Long Range version starts at 394,900 RMB (455,472) in China. Being the fastest charging electric SUV, XPeng G9 has announced its arrival in style and poses a challenge to the legacy premium carmakers of the world.
