The German electric supercar is not backing down from the direct challenge that Xiaomi SU7 Ultra is throwing at it
The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT recently created a new record at the Interlagos Formula 1 circuit in Brazil. It looks like the track record-breaking achievements of the Taycan and Xiaomi SU7 have no end. Every few weeks, we hear news reports about either of these setting new benchmarks in terms of what a production electric car can do. The performance EV was being driven by Felipe Nasr.

Porsche Taycan Turbo GT Sets New Lap Record
For the unversed, Felipe is a 3-time IMSA champion and an impressive 3-time winner of the 24 Hours of Daytona. He was able to clock a lap time of a mind-boggling 1:42.1. This is around 8 seconds faster than the Porsche Taycan Turbo S. Interestingly, the Porsche 911 Turbo S completed the same feat in 1:43.087. Also worth remembering is that the EV had the optional Weissach performance package and Pirelli Trofeo RS tires.
Another key statistic to notice is that it was able to achieve a top speed of 272 km/h (169 mph) down the curved main straight of the circuit. That is quite impressive for any production car. Nevertheless, the EV can do a 0-60 mph (96 km/h) sprint in the vicinity of 2 seconds. That is courtesy of the ginormous 1,019 hp of maximum power.
After the lap, Nasr remarked, “It’s amazing how quickly the car accelerates and delivers its power. The steering of the Taycan Turbo GT was very precise in the slow corners and remained stable even under heavy braking. The balance, the grip – a real performance machine.” That is a testament to the level of engineering the impressive SUV carries.
