Porsche Taycan GTS Guinness World Record

Porsche Taycan GTS Creates Guinness World Record For Longest Drift On Ice By EV

The performance EV now boasts 4 separate Guinness World Records

The Porsche Taycan GTS has set a Guinness World Record for the longest continuous vehicle drift on ice by an EV. Now, this requires unmatched skills which is why the Porsche Experience instructor, Jens Richter, was chosen to lead this attempt. Interestingly, he had to abandon the first attempt as the ice track began to deteriorate after the first 6.8 miles (11 km). Here are all the details of this impressive performance.

Jens Richter completed 132 laps on an ice track for 46 minutes covering 10.87 miles (17.503 km). The location was the Porsche Arctic Center in Levin, Finland. Also, the EV wore Michelin winter tires with one-millimeter spikes. During the night, the temperature dropped significantly ensuring that the track didn’t deteriorate due to the EV sliding for such a long time. Note that the previous record was 9.2 miles (14.809 km).

Even though this is an incredible achievement by an EV, I must mention that the overall longest continuous drifting record is held by the BMW M5 in 2017 where it drifted for an unbelievable 8 hours and covered 232.5 miles (374 km). This even included a mid-drift refueling by another M5. Needless to mention, EVs can’t do such long runs without recharging any time soon.

After the insane stunt was concluded, Jens Richter remarked, “With our new Guinness World Records title on ice, the Taycan has once again proven its sideways driving qualities. And this time even with all-wheel drive. The fact that the Taycan GTS can be controlled so well even under extreme conditions speaks volumes for its excellent chassis and balanced performance.” This speaks volumes about the capabilities and engineering of the Porsche Taycan GTS.

It is quite fascinating to see what the professionals can accomplish. To pull off such an immensely challenging feat is a testament to the skills of the driver. Apart from that, to make a vehicle which can sustain stress for such an extended period of time is worth a huge applause. Having said that, Porsche is a seasoned player in this space having already bagged 4 Guinness World Records with the Taycan. I won’t be surprised to see some more.
