BMW M3 EV Spied Testing

BMW M3 EV Spied Testing, First Electric M Car?

There have been multiple spotting instances of the first all-electric M car from the Bavarian car marque

The BMW M3 EV (or i3 M) was spotted testing wearing a massive camouflage. However, we know that it will borrow most elements from the BMW Vision Neue Klasse concept. While the regular EVs from BMW have been doing decently well on the sales charts across the globe, the German auto giant wants to introduce electrification to its famed M Division as well. You must know that M Division makes some of the most impressive performance monsters on the planet. The German firm would certainly like to carry that legacy to the electric age.

The images have been shared by bmwm and franciscusvanmeel on Instagram. Through the covering, we are able to recognize the Neue Klasse inspiration with dual-barrel headlamps and a narrow ‘grille’ area which will carry on the “Kidney Grille” theme even though EVs don’t need fresh air. However, to aid the aerodynamics, it looks like the performance EV will accommodate intakes on the extreme edges of the bumper.

Moving to the sides reveals flush-fitting door handles and pronounced wheel arches and fenders at the front and rear. Also, the colossal alloy wheels with low-profile tires and a reduced ride height indicate a lower and stiffer suspension setup. Toward the rear, the sloping roofline makes its presence felt, while the upright bootlid is something unique as well.

While there have been no official announcements regarding the powertrain, it is possible that it could get a quad-motor layout which will be good for around 700 hp (522 kW). In fact, with similar configurations, the bigger versions could even boast over 1,000 hp (746 kW) along with advanced torque vectoring technology. Furthermore, the electric platform supports batteries from 75 kWh to 150 kWh.

The in-house developed cylindrical cells allow for charging speeds of upto 270 kW. These are 20% more energy-dense than prismatic cells. This platform supports RWD and AWD drivetrains. On the inside, we recently saw the revolutionary Panoramic iDrive Windshield which makes the lower half of the entire windshield a screen. This includes the driver’s instrument gauge, infotainment display and passenger display for all sorts of configurable widgets. The first EV using the Neue Klasse platform will debut in H2 2025 and there will be 5 more models by 2030.

Learn Electric Cars Says

The hardcore performance department of BMW is going electric and the M3 EV (or i3 M) is likely to be the first all-electric model of the lot. This represents BMW’s confidence in entering the electric era even for the driving aficionados. We have seen Hyundai do something similar with the Ioniq 5 N. In the electric era, the Hyundai’s N Division and BMW’s M Division might not be too far apart in terms of capabilities. We shall keep an eye out for more details as they emerge.
