Nio has unveiled the EC7 coupe SUV with an astounding 920 km range on the CLTC. Granted, the Chinese test cycle is a bit liberal when it comes to analysing the driving range on a single charge, but it would still be quite high on the more standardised WLTP cycle. Nio is a Chinese luxury EV maker that aims to challenge the legacy luxury carmakers across international markets, having already been successful in the Chinese market. The EC7 is yet another positive step in that direction. Nio has already commenced selling cars in Europe and this EV could make it there by the end of this year (2023) as well. Vauxhall is a British car marque while Opel is a German carmaker but they share their products depending on whether you are in Europe or the UK. Opel (Vauxhall) has recently announced its first all-electric vehicle Opel Astra Electric. This EV is available as both hatchback and a Sports Tourer Wagon. Audi has opened bookings for the 2023 Q8 e-tron. The flagship electric SUV and crossover from the Ingolstadt-based luxury car marque offer a few aesthetic updates along with performance enhancements. BYD is planning to launch the Seal electric sedan (also known as Atto 4 in some markets) to rival the Tesla Model 3 in Europe. Having launched the Seal in the Chinese market in July this year (2022), the largest EV market in China aims to go global. In comparison to Model 3, it targets the audience with relatively affordable prices without compromising on performance. Seal is slated to be launched in Europe by the end of this year or beginning of the next year (2023). Tesla has commenced the deliveries of its highly-anticipated Semi electric truck this month (December 2022). It aims to revolutionize the commercial electric vehicle market in the USA and eventually expand globally. Semi is the truck that belongs to Class 8. Tesla, fashionably, has been secretive about the exact specifications of the Semi. But there are a few stats that have been thrown up by the most popular EV maker in the world. With a smaller battery pack, there will still be a healthy range of 300 miles (483 km). Tesla mentions that the energy consumption of the Semi is less than 1.7 kWh/mile which could mean that the battery pack could be around 600 – 900 kWh. Moreover, the electric truck features an operating voltage of around 1,000 V. The battery can be topped up to 70% in just 30 mins. But the most impressive aspect has to be the drag coefficient of just 0.36 which enables a 0-60 mph acceleration time of just 20 secs (fully loaded). This is around 3 times better than traditional diesel trucks which take around 60 secs for the same and have drag coefficients over 0.65. Pravaig has launched the Defy electric SUV for the Indian market at Rs 39.50 lakh, ex-showroom (approx $48,500 USD). The brand was introduced in 2011 with the support of a France-based company Eren group. Back then, it used to make off-road buggies. Pravaig has been manufacturing batteries for a decade now and will use in-house batteries for its EVs. Bookings for the Defy have started at Rs 51,000 online. The deliveries of this EV are slated to commence in the second half of 2023. Radar RD6 is an electric truck that has been created by the world-renowned Chinese automaker, Geely. Radar is a sub-brand of Geely and it has developed this affordable pickup truck meant to serve as a vehicle for daily use without a massive powertrain or 4×4 drivetrain.
