The 718 duo will soon go electric, taking forward the legacy into the EV era
Despite the recent reshuffling plans, the Porsche electric Boxster and Cayman are slated to make their debut by next year (2026). Nevertheless, Porsche is steadily ensuring that it is able to sell the ICEs alongside EVs in the coming times. Essentially, this will let the customers decide what they want. For reference, the sales of the 718 doubled in the first three months of this year in the U.S. Hence, there is evidently an audience for the iconic 718 moniker. Whether or not they will adopt the electric iterations remains to be seen.
In any case, CarScoops was able to fetch some sharp spy images of the test mule recently. These capture a partially camouflaged electric 718 around the Nürburgring. The front fascia reminds us of the modern Porsche EVs. The flowing bonnet culminates in horizontal air ducts on the bumper with an LED headlamp coupled with dual LED DRLs.
Then we see the active cooling slats on the rear quarter, along with a lower air intake for better aerodynamics. Finally, the tail end contains an active spoiler. The exact specifications of the electric 718 duo remain unclear, but we can expect them to offer single-motor rear-wheel drive and dual-motor all-wheel drive alternatives. In any case, one can expect exhilarating performance in every avatar.
